We've all had feelings for a friend who doesn't feel the same way. To many people they're in the friendzone. I detest this. You're not in the friendzone, you have a unrequited crush.
Now you could argue semantics and that a friendzone and an unrequited crush are the same things but I gotta call bullshit.
The friendzone to me is an ugly notion. I find people who use it treat their friendship as a placeholder for what they actually want as though that friendship is something to be lamented. "Oh she friendzone me." If you feel let down by being someone's friend then are you truly friends?
Unrequited crush is just that. They don't share your feelings. Don't decry a friendship because they don't feel the same way. You can't help who you fall for just like they can't help if feelings go unrequited.
I think it's time "friendzone" goes the way of YOLO and is forgotten by our lexicon.
